Confirmation

September 8, 2010 by 'Your Youth Minister'  

Attention all Confirmation Candidates:

This year’s Confirmation will be held on Sunday, October 17, 2010 at two masses.  The first mass is a 2:30 p.m. Confirmation mass, and the second Mass will be held at 6:00 p.m. at the Lifeteen Mass.  Rehearsal for both Confirmations will be held on Thursday, October 14, 2010 from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the church.

*There will be only one rehearsal for both Confirmations.  Please make every effort to attend this rehearsal with your sponsor or any adult proxy.

Letters announcing the rehearsal dates and times for this years’ Confirmation were mailed this past week.  Please fill out the Confirmation Survey that came with the Letter and return them to the Religious Ed. Office by September 25.

Apple Picking

We will have our annual apple picking trip to Clearview Farms in Sterling, MA on Saturday, September 25, 2010.  We will meet at the church at 9:00 a.m. and hit the road, cost to join us is $20.00, please bring some lunch with you, or some money to buy some brick oven pizza, apple crisp, cider donuts, or any other concessions.  They have delicious food!!

We will return to St. Mary’s after a day of apple and pumpkin picking, cider pressin’, and cider donut eatin’.  Maybe we will even have time for a tractor ride!!  We anticipate a 4:00 return to St. Mary’s.  Sign up sheet will be located in the LifeHouse.

Soccer at Cardinal Cushing

On Saturday, September 18 we will meet at St. Mary’s at 10:30 a.m. and  head over to Cardinal Cushing for a Soccer game, which will begin at 11:00 a.m.  We will continue this friendly rivalry, hopefully, throughout the school year.  Please join us, there is no sign up sheet, the more the merrier.  We will return to St. Mary’s for some lunch and hang out in the LifeHouse until 2:00 p.m.

The Back to School Dance and Luau have come and gone, and now it is time to return to the school year.  The good news is Lifeteen will continue to flourish and be present here at St. Mary’s, and nobody said the fun had to end.  This month brings the return of Homework Days, our much beloved annual Apple Picking Trip to Clearview Farms in Sterling, MA, and a soccer game at Cardinal Cushing.  Please join us for Lifeteen Mass on Sunday nights and Pizza and Prayer on Mondays!

Middle School Events

Join us for Middle School Pizza and Prayer on Saturday, September 18 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.  If you’ve never been to Pizza and Prayer and you’re in the 6th, 7th, or 8th Grade, we strongly recommend you join us.  We will be in the LifeHouse, or basement of the church, first we will have some time for prayer and then some pizza.  Afterward there will be time for hanging out, playing pool, ping-pong, air hockey, or just making new friends.  Don’t miss out!

Pizza and Prayer – Mondays

Every Monday join us in the Lifehouse for Pizza and Prayer.  Prayer starts at 6:30 where we sit for an hour of reflective meditation and prayer while singing all of our favorite songs.  After prayer we enjoy some pizza and take time to socialize, the night ends at 8:00 p.m.

The Lifehouse is always open at 3:00 p.m. on Mondays for Homework Days or for Open Lifehouse.  All are welcome to join us, grab a friend and bring your homework.pizza

Fr. Chris Hickey

October 2, 2009 by 'Your Youth Minister'  

Father Chris grew up in Boston. After High School he was a Boston Police Cadet for three years.  After attending St. John’s Seminary, he was ordained to the priesthood in May of 1994.  Fr. Chris’ first assignment was in Maynard, MA at St. Bridget’s.  After two years at St. Bridget’s he went over to St. Mary’s in Dedham, MA where he founded the Lifeteen program.  His term at St. Mary’s was extended by the Archdiocese and after serving in at St. Mary’s in Dedham for seven years he was offered the pastoral position at St. Williams in Dorchester.  Father Chris was appointed Pastor at St. Mary of the Sacred Heart church in Hanover, MA in September of 2004.  On his days off, Fr. Chris enjoys golfing, hanging out with friends, and looking at old prom pictures.  Father Chris’ favorite memories of Lifeteen are seeing the Pope with hundreds of teens at World Youth Day in Paris, Rome, Toronto, Germany, and Australia.

Neal Hickey

Neal Pic Neal is the Youth Minister at St. Mary of the Sacred Heart, he is also the director of R.O.C. (Rite of Confirmation) class here at St. Mary of the Sacred Heart.  Neal was an active participant in Youth Ministry, in high school, at St. Christopher’s Church in York, ME   He was fortunate in being able to travel to Rome for World Youth Day, in the summer of 2000.  Neal participated in Lifeteen at St. Mary’s in Dedham, MA as well, and is very excited to be part of Lifeteen here at St. Mary of the Sacred Heart.  He studied Communication at the University of Southern Maine and is a life-long Spanish student.  Neal’s most poignant memories of Lifeteen Hanover are from  Lifeteen Camp 2009 and Fall Retreat 2009. 

Kara Caulfield

Kara was born, and currently resides, in Boston.  She graduated from Bridgewater State College in 2006, and is currently pursuing a Masters in Education from Simmons College.  Kara teaches 6th, 7th, and 8th grade English at Sacred Heart in Roslindale.  Kara has traveled to four World Youth Days with Lifeteen.  She attended Lifeteen in Dedham, MA in all 4 years of High School and became a Core member with Lifeteen in Hanover in her junior year of College.  Kara’s favorite Lifeteen memory is going to Australia for World Youth Day with the teens.
