R.O.C.

The R.O.C.

(The Rite of Confirmation)

The ROC class is a confirmation program, for teens in the 8th and 9th grade, that encompasses the catechetical elements of community, message, worship, and service.

Preparation for confirmation consists of two years of ROC classes, 8th grade being the first year and 9th grade the second year.  The ROC class is part of the ongoing religious education program at St. Mary of the Sacred Heart.

Components of the ROC curriculum:

Community: Candidates in the ROC class will develop a sense of belonging to the Catholic church, as well as in the community here at St. Mary of the Sacred Heart Parish.

Message: Candidates will develop an understanding of: their own level of faith, the meaning of Confirmation and its’ relationship to Baptism and Holy Eucharist, the elements of the Creed, the sacramental life of the Church, of the Mass, the Beatitudes as the guidelines for living a truly Christian life, and an acceptance of the Scriptures as the Word of God

Worship: Candidates will be encouraged to participate in the Sunday Eucharist.  All candidates will always be welcomed to Lifeteen Mass, every Sunday at 6 p.m., following ROC class.

Service: Confirmation candidates will be challenged to model Jesus’ life of service and encouraged to participate in projects that will assist those who are truly in need.  The purpose of being encouraged to participate in service projects is to ready candidates for Confirmation, and to demonstrate that service is an essential part of the Christian life.

R.O.C. classes meet once per month per grade, Sundays 4:30 – 5:55 PM

This year’s Confirmation Mass will be held on October 17 at a 2:30 p.m. Mass and at the 6:00 p.m. Lifeteen Mass.
